Win Tickets To The Ballroom Thieves At Richmond Music Hall

 In News

Wednesday, June 7th, hazy folk-rock duo The Ballroom Thieves will hit the stage at Richmond Music Hall for a stop on their recent tour in support of their latest EP Undone, which just came out last week. This four-song collection features stripped-down version of fan-favorite compositions that the duo has crafted into intimate experiences. That feeling carries over into recent sets by the duo as they look to find themselves in their music again through a more introspective and vulnerable approach. Sure to be captivating and heartfelt for old and new fans alike, The Auricular is excited to giveaway two tickets to this show, which you can enter to win through a quick submission form at the bottom of this article.

Comprised of Calin Peters and Martin Earley, The Ballroom Thieves have spent the last decade captivating audiences with their spirited and gripping performances. Since releasing their debut record The Devil & The Deep in 2012, the band has established a sound that focuses on storytelling and genuine expression through powerful vocals and a rich atmospheric sound that’s felt even in intimate acoustic sets.

In 2022, The Ballroom Thieves released their highly acclaimed album, “Clouds,” which serves as a poignant reflection on their longing for the road and the toll of a nomadic lifestyle. The record confronts the wide-eyed promise of the open road head-on with a decade’s worth of personal experience to help temper and direct the duo’s ingrained wanderlust. To deliver this deeply personal story, the band deviated from the hallmarks of their past releases, tracking most of the album live to reflect this newfound clarity in the wake of their assorted experiences.

With Undone, the duo seems to continue that nuanced reflection, using their fresh perspective to gaze back at older songs and reimagine them with the wisdom and judgment that can only come after a decade’s worth of traveling the world. Their first single from this release, “Pour Down,” revisits a track from 2022’s Clouds, demonstrating that their mindset is constantly evolving, allowing each passing year to bring forth deeper perception and penetrating insights.

Their June 7th performance at Richmond Music Hall will add to this growing evolution for the band, with each stop on their winding tours growing their sharp acumen, both for their music and for their lives in general. Their recent concerts showcase this approach beautifully, focusing on the conversational nature of songwriting as Peters and Earley explore a musical partnership that still has more to uncover after all this time. Put simply, this is a rare chance to experience moving music from a duo truly looking to make each and every performance unique and significant, regardless of the set length or crowd size.

Joining The Ballroom Thieves on this bill is Anna Leonard, a local singer-songwriter with a nimble approach to indie pop. She was a spotlighted artist in a Scene Recap column on this site at the beginning of this month so you can read that if you want to learn more about her. Since you’re already on this article though, the Cliff’s Notes version is that she’s a dexterous musician with two recent singles, “Girlhood” and “Denial,” that are brilliant enough to make you want to clear your schedule for June 7th even if Leonard was playing by herself.

But she’s not! She’s playing with The Ballroom Thieves in what should be a fantastic showcase of crafty and resonant songwriting. Enter for a chance to win a pair of tickets in the submission form below. We’ll announce the winner on Monday, June 5th on our social media so make sure to keep an eye out for it. And if you don’t win, trust us when we say you should still find the time to catch this show.
