LandlordSb Braves The Storm Of Prison Life In “Sam”

 In News

For too many people across the country and beyond, incarceration is more than a sensitive subject. It’s a daily reality, a looming future, a painful past. The prison system is designed to demoralize and dehumanize, rarely offering anything of value. Still, some manage to harness that experience into something powerful, something moving. LandlordSb is one of those lucky ones, reframing that harsh reality into stirring art with his latest single, “Sam,” a stark entry in the Booth The Streets video series.

You ever had that funny feeling that you might die tonight,” LandlordSb asks in the hook, a chilling line that hits after vivid verses detailing hunger strikes, COVID lockdowns, and the constant lack of safety or privacy. The lyrics relay the daily survival tactics behind bars, highlighting both the fragility and the resilience that grow in such an environment. Over a reserved beat with a subtle haunting melody, LandlordSb opts for clarity over cleverness with a sharp, punchy flow that makes every verse land heavy with urgency.

Shot by HundoMadeIt, the video adds even more to the weighty song with LandlordSb performing under a drizzling rain, shielded only by a black-and-white umbrella that visually mirrors the stark constraints of a jumpsuit. The somber setting intensifies the song’s emotional weight, but it also portrays strength, an understated defiance in the face of adversity that LandlordSb communicates by never wavering in the video, not even to shake off the raindrops. When family members join him later in the video, the song starts to resonate on another layer, showing that even in the isolation of incarceration, solidarity and love persist.

“Sam” is LandlordSb’s first release of 2025 and follows his poignant December video for “Missing You,” which closed out a prolific 2024. That year began with the video for “In My Feeling” in April and gained momentum with a burst of releases in September, including the “Psa” video and streaming singles “Changed” and “Letter to yall.” If his latest work is any indication, 2025 could be an even more powerful year for the Richmond MC.
