Lloydo2x & BB.$lim Contrast Leisure With Dispute On “Flo”

Every day, it seems there are a dozen more rappers in the city worth knowing, each working diligently to establish their own brand of punchy lyricism and melodic rhythm. Because of this, it might be a little daunting to find some artists to pay close attention to. When in doubt though, we here at The Auricular always turn our ears towards the prolific artists in town, the ones grinding away with release after release. In that vein, someone you’ll want to get to know very soon is local MC Lloydo2x whose discography has been growing at an impressive rate these last several years, a catalog that kicked off the year with the smooth and punchy “Flo,” released alongside BB.$lim.

The video and song for “Flo” is a story of contrast, with the song featuring a smooth and relaxing beat that’s matched with gnawing bars that insult and incite throughout. The video features the duo in some relaxing scenarios too, cruising down the road and chilling in a normal basement, but to feed that contrast, the post-production work goes into hypedrive with a variety of colorized effects and tilting shots that let the video pop out of your screen while also coming across as a dual statement: a relaxing ambiance and a combative assertion.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2021, Lloydo2x has kept busy, releasing three singles that year followed by three more singles and five (yes, five) records in 2022. 2023 has begun with a similar production rate as “Flo” is the first of six singles so far this year and he also released a five-song EP entitled No Heart in February. This output is beyond impressive and even if he went on hiatus today, he’d still have a busier year than 95% of the rappers in the Richmond area. But something tells us there’s a lot more on the horizon for this restless MC.
