Win A Copy Of RVA Playlist: Stories From The Richmond, Virginia Music Scene

 In News

This past November, local music scribe Andrew Cothern released RVA Playlist: Stories from the Richmond, Virginia Music Scene, a book documenting his time in the Richmond, VA music scene from 2006 until 2016. During this time, Cothern made a name for himself as a one-man force that extensively covered the local music scene through the blog RVA Playlist.

The book runs through the discovery of the local scene to documenting it as both a diligent reporter and passionate fan as well as the comical lows and emotional highs that followed. Chapter to chapter unfolds as a love letter to a decade in Richmond music with practically every memory feeling just as relevant to today’s scene, whether it’s closing out your work week every summer on Brown’s Island for Friday Cheers or staying way too late on a Monday night at The Camel just to catch the headliner. Thoughtful and funny, it’s a perfect encapsulation of what a local scene can do for people, a literary embodiment of the same sentiment Minuteman expressed on the classic song “History Lesson – Part II” though much more personal and far more compelling.

To celebrate the release, The Auricular is going to be giving away TWO physical copies of the book. To enter for a chance to win, all you have to do is enter your name and e-mail address below. The contest opens on Friday, January 13th and closed Sunday, January 15th with the two winners being announced on Monday, January 16th.

The following day, Tuesday, January 17th, Andrew Cothern will be on-hand at Chop Suey Books for a reading, Q&A, and conversation hosted by local auteur PJ Sykes. (For event details, click here.) If you win, maybe head over there and get Andrew to sign your copy. If not, go anyway and pick up a vital chronicle of Richmond music history as told by one if its most important figures. And if for some reason you can’t make it and don’t win, make sure to order an electronic or physical copy of RVA Playlist: Stories from the Richmond, Virginia Music Scene on Amazon (click here). Read it and fall in love with Richmond music whether for the first time or the thousandth.
