Support Richmond Musicians Impacted By COVID-19 Via Bandcamp’s Fundraiser

 In News

As Richmond and the rest of America enter only the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s hard to really know what to do. Life changes on an hourly basis these days, with some people worrying about their next paychecks and others facing the uncertainty of self-quarantining without an official diagnosis or prognosis.

We’ve heard the rallying cry countless times: We will get through this. And it’s true. One hundred percent true. But that doesn’t make this period any less daunting or terrifying. The new normal is unsustainable for millions of Americans and we have only begun to figure out how to cope with what looks like an extended period of isolation and respite.

Luckily, there have been several great charity initiatives that have been announced over the last week-and-a-half, none more relevant to this publication than Bandcamp’s pledge to waive all revenue shares on Friday, March 20th.

Musicians have been hit especially hard with local shows and national tours cancelled for the foreseeable future. Live performances are the primary source of income for a majority of musicians these days and without this, it’s hard for some to even wrap their head around what tomorrow will look like.

To help promote Bandcamp’s fantastic initiative in town, we’ve compiled a list of over 800 musicians from the Richmond area with links directly to their Bandcamp where you can purchase a song, a record, or maybe some merchandise to help make up for the loss income after venues and studios shut down across the nation. This list is completely randomized with a new order available each time you visit the webpage in order to give equal placing to all of the vital artists in our vibrant music scene.

Take a look for yourself. We’ll be updating it as the day goes on as well as adding genre tags. Anything you can contribute, big or small, will make a big difference in how these musicians cope with this on-going crisis.

Be smart and safe out there! We here at The Auricular are thinking of anyone and everyone affected by this crisis and we are here for you through whatever means possible.
