Merciful Zero Embraces Visions On Video For “A Show”
Hard rock Merciful Zero has finally arrived with music to share. After countless gigs around town and some enticing live performances posted to their YouTube page, the band dropped their debut single “A Show” this past Monday along with an accompanying music video. The sharp and dramatic track serves as the lead track to their upcoming self-titled album due this March, which you can preview now over at their Bandcamp page.
Compelling and crisp, “A Show” is a fantastic showcase of the band’s sound, which they describe as an “amalgamation of pop, rock, hardcore, doom, and alternative influences.” Helping to merge all those styles is a commanding vocal presence by lead singer Hans which directs the band’s brazen sound in all its cagey glory. In the video, directed and produced by band member George “Cheez” Armwood, Hans is haunted by visions of the other band members, each a subconscious invitation to give up her daily routine and embrace the theatrics of rock music. It’s a curious video that contains a big pay-off in the climax, both musically and cinematically, all of which makes “A Show” a great introduction to the band’s incisive sound.
Merciful Zero formed over the last few years when members of the classic Richmond rock group Armwood began writing and performing with singer Hans. Armwood’s last release was the 2020 EP No Filter Through The Vortex, which is still available on Bandcamp alongside other releases. Fans have been noticing the band’s seasoned sound through shows at Richmond Music Hall and Bandito’s, which helped the band establish a reputation as someone to keep your ear out for in the local scene.
Merciful Zero’s self-titled album is out everywhere on March 10th and make sure to follow Merciful Zero on social media for more release news. Until then, enjoy the video for “A Show” below.
